LinkedIn announced plans to implement AI-powered tools to improve the recruiting and hiring process on its platform. The business and employment-centric social media platform owned by Microsoft will utilize technology from OpenAI, the creators of ChatGPT, to enable natural language capabilities.
In an interview with Tech Brew, LinkedIn’s VP of product engineering Erran Berger, stated that one of the tools, called Recruiter 2024, will, “help recruiters expand the list of potential candidates by opening up a conversational format between the AI and the human,” where suggestions will be presented based on the inquires specified by the user. For instance, rather than manually selecting certain search filters, a recruiter can describe their ideal candidates using natural language to the AI which will then reply with suggestions to expand the search pool such as experience level, skills, locations, or remote work options.
According to LinkedIn’s chief executive Ryan Roslansky, the company is trying to encourage recruiters to find candidates who have the necessary skills to fulfill the job requirements rather than focusing on their title or education. This idea comes in response to the rapidly evolving job market where typical candidate searching procedures would yield narrow results. Therefore, Roslansky believes that by searching for certain skills with Recruiter 2024 recruiters will be able to find significantly more qualifying candidates than before.
Recruiters on LinkedIn won’t be the only individuals to get a new AI-powered tool as the company has also announced a chatbot called Learn with AI. Job-seeking employees can use this learning coach to ask career-related questions and receive advice on courses they should take based on their skills and roles. For example, if a user seeking a job as a data analyst were to ask for help sharpening their Python coding knowledge, the chatbot would reply with sources for the user to practice and polish their skills.
While many people are expressing their concerns about AI taking over jobs, LinkedIn’s integration of AI-powered tools, such as Recruiter 2024 and Learn with AI, demonstrates how the technology can be a force for positive change in the employment landscape. With these innovative tools, LinkedIn not only enhances the experience for both recruiters and job-seeking employees but also paves the way for a workforce that is more skill-driven, diverse, and adaptable in the rapidly evolving professional world.
