Tech Leaders Share Cybersecurity Solutions At DC Summit
Top Challenges and Solutions Discussed at Annual Cybersecurity Event
The 11th Annual DC Metro Cybersecurity Summit was held at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Tysons Corner, Virginia, on July 18th, 2024. The annual event, hosted by the CyberRisk Alliance, included industry security exhibitions showing innovations in a variety of products and services and leading experts discussing the latest advances and issues in cybersecurity technology.
IRS Working with Industry to Protect Citizens and Data
The event launched with a keynote presentation by Jarod Koopman, the Executive Director of Cyber and Forensic Services at the Internal Revenue Service’s Criminal Investigation Division. The division serves the American public by investigating criminal violations of the Internal Revenue Code, including tax fraud and identity theft, while also protecting taxpayer information and the IRS’s electronic systems from internal and external threats. Koopman’s opening remarks and insights discussing contemporary and dynamic cybersecurity challenges the IRS faces set the tone for the day’s information sharing regarding cyber threats.
IBM Continues Push for New Cyberdefenses
The IBM Security Opening Keynote featured Jeff Crume, a seasoned Distinguished Engineer and Master Inventor with over 40 years of IT industry experience, a PhD in Cybersecurity, and an adjunct professorship at North Carolina State University. His keynote, “AI: The New Attack Surface,” analyzed six distinct AI attacks, clarifying the current threats and outlining strategies for securing data, models, usage, and infrastructure, as well as exploring potential ways organizations may be able to incorporate generative AI technology with cybersecurity defense technology in the years ahead.
Wide-Ranging Threats Require Comprehensive Defenses
Speakers and presentations continued throughout the day. Several presentations from industry and government agencies, including the Department of Homeland Security Cybersecurity and Infrastructure and Security Agency, addressed crucial topics such as ransomware, DDoS attacks, cloud security, software bill of materials, security automation, AI, and other vital cybersecurity concerns.
CyberRisk Alliance Provides Forum for Information Sharing
The Cybersecurity Summit series connects senior executives with leading technology providers and renowned security experts. Events take place in more than 50 cities in the US and Canada, with virtual summits focusing on sector-specific threats like healthcare and finance. Experts from top government agencies, companies, and think tanks lead interactive panels and keynotes, showcasing the latest cybersecurity solutions presented to attendees in the auditorium sessions. Additional technology innovations are shared in the accompanying industry exhibition hall.
